Adam Audio

ADAM Audio was founded in March 1999 in Berlin. Since then the company has been developing, manufacturing and distributing loudspeakers in the field of Professional Audio. The development of the X-ART (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeter based on the 1960’s invention of the Air Motion Transformer by Oskar Heil was largely responsible for the company’s founding. Producing sound not with a piston-like diaphragm as is done in most of the loudspeakers that are on the market, but using a pleated diaphragm that is capable of moving the air 4 times faster than the folds themselves are moving was the appealing idea behind it all. The achieved results were intriguing and gave ample reason for moving forward.

Ahead Drumsticks

What started as a hobby for Patrick Van de Sande grew into an international brand that pays great attention to innovation. After all these years we still believe in the same foundations that have formed us.

Cympad

Reto Hirschi is a Swiss-based professional drummer and teacher who noticed that the sound level of his cymbals was often too loud in performance and recording situations— and sometimes too loud in rehearsal and teaching situations, as well. Because of this, Reto (like other drummers) often either had to wear earplugs or found himself banished behind a Plexiglas wall at live concerts and in the studio, or both. Reto felt that these solutions were not satisfactory: Earplugs modified the sound of the drums and the Plexiglas wall had a sonic effect that disrupted his relationship with the audience. Reto was convinced there had to be a better way to “tame” his cymbals. To meet this need, Reto had the idea of replacing the standard bottom cymbal felt with a larger one. This small change resulted in a noticeably less aggressive, less noisy, less washy sound without changing the general sound characteristics of the cymbal. After further experimenting, Reto took his idea to the next level by swapping the traditional felt washer for a washer made of an advanced, cellular foam. He then began trying different washer sizes to create additional sound control options. Calling them “Cympad Moderators”, Reto’s invention and the Cympad Company were born in 2005 with the introduction of 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100mm Moderator models to the drumming world.

Dean Zelinsky

I started building professionally in 1976. As soon as I got Dean Guitars up and running, I spent my days building guitars and my evenings backstage at big rock shows hustling my guitars to major rock bands. Kerry Livgren of Kansas was the first to purchase one of my guitars and the first to play one onstage. Soon after, I was working with top bands of the late '70s and early '80s like like Heart, The Doobie Brothers, Elliot Easton of the Cars…and many more. Then a bigger break was hanging out with Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. I made him an ML model guitar and shipped it to him. He phoned me when he was recording the Eliminator record and said he used the guitar for the entire album. I was soon making guitars for their tour. With the advent of MTV, ZZ Top had a big resurgence and their 'Legs' video featured the Spinning Fur Guitars I built for them. Over the years, I added quite a few artists to the list including some of my guitar heros: Dimebag Darrell, Michael Schenker and finally my idol Johnny Winter. Johnny played the custom engraved guitars I made for him almost almost exclusively for the last 4 years of his life. Here is a partial roster of world-class guitarists who have graced the stages with some of my guitars:
Michael Schenker, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott (Pantera, DamagePlan), Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill (ZZ Top), Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne), Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne), Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Leslie West (Mountain), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Elliot Easton and Rik Ocasek (The Cars), Rik Emmett (Triumph), Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Sammy Hagar (Van Halen), Kerry Livgren (Kansas), John McFee (The Doobie Brothers), Nancy Wilson (Heart), Joe Don Rooney (Rascal Flatts), Kim Simmonds (Savoy Brown), Johnny Winter, and many more...

Decksaver

Founded in 2008 in the industrial heartland of Leeds, United Kingdom, Decksaver set out to solve the eternal problem surrounding music gear – how to protect expensive units from damage in demanding club, studio, stage and home environments. In the following years, our products quickly became the industry standard in elite clubbing establishments across the globe – such as Ministry of Sound, Fabric, Space, Pacha and Amnesia. Utilising over 50 years’ experience in the plastics industry, our covers are all manufactured under one roof in Great Britain – using only the highest grade polycarbonate. In 2008, Mustafa El-Etriby came home to find his prized CDJ-1000’s damaged by his little brother. This frustrating moment inspired a game-changing new product and soon the first Decksaver was designed. In following years, Decksaver covers caught fire in clubs across the world. The brand went from strength to strength – releasing a vast array of new covers and refining our sleek yet super-durable designs.

Denon

Since 1910, Denon has perhaps made more technological innovations than any other audio brand. Still, progress for the sake of progress is far from the Denon way. Underlying this legacy of first-to-market technologies are three pillars that continue to drive the brand forward.First and foremost, everyone at Denon is a music lover (many are indeed musicians). Whether they're a Sound Master, an engineer or a customer service representative, they will – without exception – be deeply passionate about how things sound. We've not strayed from the principles that made us famous 110 years ago.

Elixir Strings

Elixir Strings was born in 1997. Although we were working with guitar strings already, they weren’t anywhere near a guitar. Instead, we were using them as convenient test subjects in our attempt to develop a better variety of push-pull cable. As part of this work, our research team was coating the strings with polytetrafluoroethylene, which you can just call PTFE in order to save some breath for your next show. The coated strings worked quite well as cables, but they sounded terrible as guitar strings. (Picture a guitar strung with day-old spaghetti.) Still, the mere idea got a couple of guitarists among us thinking… What if we could alter the coating and tinker with the process so the strings sounded great? Could we make a coated string that actually got called back for an encore?

Focusrite

We believe in enriching peoples' lives through music, and we're proud to play our small part in that massive endevour. We make audio interfaces, and that's all we do. It's the job of an audio interface to sit between you and your sound being shared with the world, and we're the best in the world at making that happen. Of course, we didn't always make audio interfaces. There wasn't always a computer! But those same principles applied. Back in the 80s, we made consoles. Twelve to be precise. Probably the best sounding consoles ever made. It's a good story and one that has made us laugh and cry. If you've got a spare hour, perhaps it will inspire you.

IK Multimedia

It all began in a small town in northern Italy. Not just any small town, but a town rich in heritage — a heritage of innovation. A town known as the sports car capital of the world, and also known for its exquisite cuisine and as the birthplace of Balsamic Vinegar. And the birthplace of one of the most innovative companies in the music industry - the town of Modena, Italy. Way back in 1996 — around the time electricity was discovered and cell phones were the size of your average 4-slot toaster — two Italian engineers got together to solve a problem in a recording studio. Could you get the sound of classic analog gear from a computer? One of them said (in Italian, of course) "Could we emulate electronic circuits using DSP algorithms and feed an audio signal through the computer and get the same sound?" The answer was yes, the piece of gear they emulated was a vintage Abbey Road console, and a company was born.

Image Line

Image-Line was founded by Jean-Marie Cannie and Frank Van Biesen, who after seven years of creating stock market software for Pavell Software, decided in 1992 to branch into video games. Their first product was an adult video game based on Tetris, which they then offered on floppy disks in the ad section of Computer Magazine. Around this time CD-ROM games such as The 7th Guest were becoming popular, inspiring Van Biesen and Cannie to begin working with Private, one of the larger producers of adult video games at the time. Private released multiple Image-Line CD-ROM games including Private Prison and Private Castle. The company officially adopted the name Image-Line in 1994.

Kemper Amps

The KEMPER PROFILER™ is the leading-edge digital guitar amplifier and all-in-one effects processor. Hailed as a game-changer by guitarists the world over, the PROFILER™ is the first digital guitar amp to really nail the full and dynamic sound of a guitar or bass amp. This is made possible by a radical, patented technology and concept which we call "PROFILING™". For decades, the electric guitarist has been shackled to the tube amplifier as the only means of achieving "that sound". This magical combination is by no means ideal - the challenge to achieve a consistent sound from the practice room to the studio, and especially to the stage, continues to frustrate guitarists, just as it has since the early 1940s.

Kuppmen Music

... after a long search, I discovered the name of the man who invented Carbosticks and Carbo-Rods. Peter Kuppers, residing in eastern Bavaria, turned out to be someone with brilliant ideas, golden hands and an enormous love of drums. His sticks and rods had been hugely successful in the drumstick market for many years. But in 2013, he’d been forced to close his company for personal reasons. When I met Peter, we discovered that we had the same ideas about music and drumming. Peter was enthusiastic about putting his sticks back on the market. So we decided to do this together under the name Kuppmen (Kuppers and Menken) Music. Not only have the sticks gained a new name – they have been further developed technically, and now better meet our requirements. We’ve also set up an entirely new website with an online shop. Our sticks are now ready for you to order and use. My wish is that drummers all over the world will start playing with our Carbon Fiber Drumsticks and Carbon Fiber Drumrods, because I know just how much drumming pleasure they provide. They were a revelation for me and I’m confident they will be for you – whatever your style.
Best drum wishes,
Wouter Menken

Rotosound

In 1952 James How, a violin and viola student with a diploma in engineering, fell in love with the sound of the zither after watching the film The Third Man and took to learning the 32-string instrument. After hours of playing, James ran out of zither strings and using his knowledge of acoustics, harmonics, engineering design and construction he designed himself a winding machine. With the aid of two of the family turning handles each end of his machine, after five minutes of frantic exhaustion one Zither string was produced. As the years went by James How invented and designed more and more strings, more machines and in 1958 James and brother Ron formed their own business in Blackfen, Kent called Orchestral & Jazz Strings. The first strings were branded ‘Top Strings’ which soon changed to ‘Rotop’. Among the first clients were the Shadows, Beatles, Rolling Stones, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, all strings for the Vox Organ Company, and for the Burns Guitar Company.

This was “an eye opening experience” which lead to RTOM’s philosophy of using engineering principals to improve the way percussion instruments are played. Tom’s passion for learning is heavily engrained in the culture of RTOM and is a major driver of our research.

Soho Sound Company

Soho Sound Company is an independent, small family business with bundles of global commercial, design and music industry experience. For the last 12 or so years we have all been working in different roles within the musician accessory world. After traveling the globe and seeing many amazing artists and venues, one day in a London pub we decided that we were going to make personal audio products for the true music lover. Taking our understanding of the customer’s requirements and delivering them a product that has comfort, quality features and a price that is sensible.
YEARS AGO… IN A CITY NOT VERY FAR AWAY… musicians used to congregate in music shops in London’s west end. From Clapton to Wood, Hendrix to Chas and Dave, if you wanted a instrument or something for your band you went to one of these shops. Sadly, there are not many left now, but if you find one, you can order SOHO SOUND COMPANY products from them. We are available to buy from most good music shops in the UK, Mainland Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand.
